AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Missouri State punter Stewart McDonald (Jr., Rogersville, Mo.) was named to the Ray Guy Award "Ray's 8" for week nine of the college football schedule, the organization announced Monday (Nov. 2).
McDonald averaged 42.2 yards per punt on four attempts in last week's 24-3 home victory over Sam Houston at Robert W. Plaster Stadium. He had two punts downed inside the 20 with a long of 45 to hold the Bearkats in check and help Missouri State improve to 3-1 at home this season and 2-2 in Conference USA play. He also had a net punting average of 42.8 on the week.
Joining McDonald on this week's "Ray's 8" Award are: Jacob Carlson (Navy), Will Karoll (Texas Tech), Simon McClannan (Kansas State), Harrison Tuck (Memphis), James Wagenseller (Army), Tom Weston (Minnesota) and Archie Wilson (Nebraska).
The Ray Guy Award -- named for football's premier punter -- honors the nation's best collegiate punter in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner are net punting average, percentage of punts inside the 20-yard line, and percentage of punts not returned, with particular emphasis placed on net punting average.Â
