Season Statistics
SPRINGFIELD – The Missouri State baseball team was unable to overcome a hot start by visiting Indiana Sunday afternoon at Hammons Field as the Hoosiers jumped out to a 9-0 lead after three innings on the way to claiming the series with a 10-4 win.
IU (4-6) scored six runs in the first inning and led 9-0 before the Bears got in the scoring column in the fourth. Spencer Nivens pulled a leadoff double to right center to set the table for two-out RBI singles from Dakota Kotowski and Mason Greer for a 9-2 score.
The Hoosiers scored their final run in the sixth and Mason Hull answered with a solo home run in the bottom of that inning, good for his sixth round-tripper and 21st RBI of the young season.
Greer led off the seventh with a single to become the first MSU player with hits from both sides of the plate since Drew Millas in May 2019 and scored on Drake Baldwin's fielder's choice for the final 10-4 margin.
The Bears (5-6) needed extended time from the bullpen once again, with Forrest Barnes tossing 4.2 innings in relief, followed by Reece Lang, Eric Loomis, Caden Wilson and Trey Ziegenbein combining for 3.1 scoreless frames to end the game.
Missouri State visits No. 8 Oklahoma State at 4 p.m. Tuesday before playing 11 consecutive games at Hammons Field from March 11-27.
