DES MOINES, Iowa – Missouri State softball (19-32, 16-11 MVC) completed the series sweep of Drake on the road in Des Moines(21-31, 12-15 MVC) here Sunday afternoon.
Missouri State carried the momentum over from its doubleheader sweep on Saturday, scoring a run in the top of the first inning.
Halle Studer knocked a double to left center field and was headed home on
McKenzie Vaughan's single but was thrown out at home. With two outs on the board and Vaughan standing on second,
Riley Baber roped a double to right center field to open the scoring and give MoState a 1-0 lead.
Drake answered promptly in the bottom of the first, utilizing three singles in the frame to knot the game at 1-1. The Bulldogs took their first lead of the series with a solo homer to left field in the bottom of the second inning.
After scoreless third and fourth innings, Missouri State broke it open in the top of the fifth inning.
Kenzie Derryberry knocked a solo home run to left field to get the big inning started.

Chloe Merced were hit by a pitch and drew a walk in back-to-back at-bats, before Vaughan hit an infield single to give the Bears the lead. Immediately, Baber sent an RBI single to center field and an error by the center fielder allowed a second run to score to put the Bears up 5-2.
After a 1-2-3 inning in the fifth for the MoState defense, Drake stranded four runners across the final two innings as the Bears secured the series sweep.
Baber, Derryberry and Vaughan each had two hits on the day, led by. Baber with two RBI on the afternoon. The Bears combined for four extra-base hits in the game.
Mackenzie Chacon earned her second win of the series after tossing 5.1 innings and allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts. Vaughan earned the save after coming on in relief and hurling 1.2 scoreless innings.
The Bears will play in the MVC Tournament next week (May 7-10), hosted by Drake in Des Moines. Final seedings will be announced following the conclusion of today's conference games.
