LEXINGTON, Ky. - Missouri State STUNT concluded its inaugural season as a program Saturday morning after advancing to the final day of the Mid America West Conference Tournament at Memorial Coliseum. The Bears once again faced off against No. 4-seeded Mercyhurst, who delivered a 20-11 defeat after handing MoState a 15-10 loss on Friday to account for both of the team's tournament losses.
"For our first season and first conference tournament, the team did really well," head coach
Kennedy Wingbermuehle said. "They are already excited for what is to come next season and working to get better every day."
The Bears got another shot at the Lakers on Saturday after defeating No. 6-seeded Central Arkansas on Friday to advance to the tournament's final day. Mercyhurst kept its season alive with its third win over Missouri State in the last week, including the teams' matchup at the Music City STUNT Classic last Saturday in Nashville.
Like yesterday, Mercyhurst shut out the Bears in the first quarter with partner stunts, this time taking all four points. The game shifted in the second quarter with pyramids & tosses, with Missouri State taking all four possible points while Mercyhurst split the point in the second round of the quarter to make it a 5-4 Laker lead entering halftime.
The Lakers added to their lead in the jumps & tumbling quarter by taking all four possible points while the Bears came away with two points to make the score 9-6 entering the team routine. Unlike yesterday, where Missouri State scored more points in the final quarter to close the gap, Mercyhurst pulled away to secure the win with an 11-point team routine quarter to win, 20-11.
Sophomore
Peighton Powell led the Bears with a power rating of 23 points after participating in 20 of the 24 rounds. Across the three tournament games, Powell scored 92 points and was named to the All-Mid America Conference Second Team.
Autumn Speckhart led the Bears with 94 points across the tournament.
Missouri State went 1-2 at the Mid America West Conference Tournament and ended its first season with a record of 9-18 and a regular season conference record of 3-5.
