Box Score LAWRENCE, Kan. – Missouri State (13-28) fell 8-0 in six innings on the road at Kansas (18-20) here Tuesday evening.
The Bears came out with a solid first inning, knocking back-to-back two-out singles before a strikeout ended their first-inning threat. Kansas responded by scoring first in the home half of the first inning, capitalizing on a MoState error before hitting an RBI single up the middle to push the first run across.
After a scoreless second inning for both squads, the Jayhawks took over the game, posting runs in four consecutive innings beginning in the third. In the top of the third, the Bears once again put two runners on base via a single and a hit by pitch but couldn't get a timely hit to get on the scoreboard. Kansas took advantage in the bottom of the inning, adding two runs on a sacrifice fly and a double down the right field line to make it a 3-0 game.
The fourth inning saw another two-run frame for the Jayhawks as they knocked a solo homer, a single to left field and a double down the right field line to extend the lead to 5-0. MoState did a solid job of limiting the damage as the previous sequence occurred with no outs. The Bears threw out a Jayhawk runner at third trying to extend her double, then forced back-to-back fly outs following an error to get out of the inning.
Kansas was able to close the game out early after posting one run in the fifth inning on a solo homer and two runs in the sixth off an RBI single and a MoState error with bases loaded to hand the Bears an 8-0 loss in six innings.
Chloe Merced,
Halle Studer and
Riley Baber accounted for MoState's three hits on the evening as the Bears stranded five runners in the game.
Missouri State stays on the road this weekend for a three-game Missouri Valley Conference series at Illinois State (April 17-19). All three games of the series will stream on ESPN+.
