Game 1 – Texas State 3, Missouri State 0
In the first game of the day in San Marcos, Texas, both teams created traffic on the basepaths early but couldn't push a run across.
The Bears put its leadoff batter on in the first inning after
Brynn Romine was hit by a pitch. A couple of batters later,
McKenzie Vaughan drew a walk to put two on with just one out on the board. MoState would end stranding both runners.
In the second inning, the squads combined to get three batters on base via walks, but weren't able to take advantage of the free passes as the game entered the third inning still tied at 0-0. The first hit of the night for either team came in bottom of the third as Texas State hit a single, but a fly out would eventually end the inning with no damage done.
A big fourth inning for the Bobcats was the difference-maker in this one. Texas State used three hits and two MoState errors to plate three runs in the competitive battle. The Bobcats pushed runs across via a couple of RBI triples and a Bears error to take a 3-0 lead after four innings.
Missouri State had its best scoring opportunity of the night in the top half of the fifth.
Emily Gerardy led the inning off with a walk, before advancing to third when
Alexis Perales reached on an error by the Texas State pitcher. With two runners on the corners and zero outs on the board, MoState then went down in order with a couple of strikeouts and a fly out.
The Bears mustered a base hit over the final two innings as they went on to fall 3-0 in the series opener.
Vaughan accounted for Missouri State's lone hit in the game, a leadoff single in the sixth inning. The Bears did earn four free passes in the game, but they struck out nine times in the contest and left six runners on base.
Game 2 – Texas State 9, Missouri State 0 (5 Innings)
In the nightcap of Friday's doubleheader, the Bears were held to just one hit in the run-rule loss.
After a scoreless first inning, Texas State got hot offensively, posting four runs in the second inning. With two outs, the Bobcats drove in runs in three consecutive at-bats courtesy of two RBI singles and a two-RBI double down the left field line.
Trailing 4-0, the Bears put their first baserunner on in the top of the third with a hit by pitch, but that's all they would get in the inning. Texas State poured it on in the third inning, adding five more runs to extend the lead over Missouri State to 9-0. Once again with two outs on the scoreboard, the Bobcats knocked an RBI single before delivering the knock-out blow two batters later with a grand slam.
