Missouri State cross country runners Emily Beaver and Erin Edwards earned spots on the Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Scholar Athlete Team, the conference announced Tuesday (Oct. 30).
Beaver claimed a spot on the team for the third time, while Edwards was named a Scholar-Athlete for the second time.
Scholar-Athlete honors require athletes to meet performance standards, as they must finish among the first 20 runners at the conference championship and hold at least a cumulative 3.2 GPA and be a sophomore in athletic and academic standing.
Edwards and Beaver finished 16th and 19th, respectively, at the MVC Cross Country Championships last Saturday. Edwards set a new personal best in the 5K with a time of 18:07, while Beaver crossed the finish line in 18:12.
The two runners have finished first and second among MSU runners in each race Missouri State has run this season.
The Bears cross country squad will return to action at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday, Nov. 9 in Springfield, Mo. The women's 6K championship race will begin at noon, and the men's 10K championship race will start at 1:15 p.m.
