Bears Prepped for 2009 MVC Cross Country Championship

The Missouri State Cross Country team will head to Peoria, Ill. on Oct. 31 to participate in the 2009 Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championship.  Last year, the Bears fared well, placing second as a team.  Sophomore Terry Phillips was the top finisher among the current Bear roster, with her seventh place finish in last year's conference championship.  Phillips has also been the top finisher for the Bears in every meet this season.

Head coach Greg Hipp won the 2004 MVC Cross Country Championship and has outscored 501 of 653 teams in his six-year career at Missouri State.  This season, Hipp and the Bears have been picked to finish fourth overall in the pre-meet coaches' poll. The Bears have outscored 61 of the 72 teams they faced this season.

In addition to high team scores, Phillips' time of 17:36.00 in the Missouri State Classic currently ranks as the top 5K time among all women in the Valley.  Phillips and freshman Emily Beaver have also made historic strides in the 6K distance.  At the Chile Pepper Festival, Phillips moved to fourth all-time at Missouri State with her time of 21:26.00 and Beaver moved to 20th with her time of 22:19.00.
