Bears Heading to Chicago for Sean Earl Lakeside Invitational
Missouri State Cross Country will head to Chicago, Ill. on October 3 to compete in the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational. Prominent teams competing in this year's meet are Wichita State, Northwestern and host school Loyola University.
"The meet up in Loyola is going to be a great one for us," said cross country head coach Greg Hipp, "They have a real nice course for the type of team we have put together. It is going to be some good competition. We get to see Wichita State, Loyola's got a strong team, Northwestern will be there and a few others, so it should be a nice meet for us as we transition into the second half of our season."
In last year's contest, Northwestern proved to be the victor with 76 team points, far ahead of second-place Missouri with 93 points. Loyola finished fifth with 124 team points. Neither Wichita State, nor Missouri State competed in last year's Lakefront Invitational.
The Bears have not run since their own host meet two weeks ago, where they finished fourth overall. In that race, Missouri State sophomore Terry Phillips led all Bears with a fifth-place finish. Phillips time of 17:36.00, 48.7 seconds better than her time last year on the same course, earned her Missouri Valley Player of the Week honors.
The harriers will take off at 11 a.m. on Saturday October 3. Results will be posted at missouristatebears.com when they become available.
