MSU Distance Specialists Beaver and Phillips Earn Academic All-District Honors
Missouri State track and cross country standouts Emily Beaver (So., Diamond, Mo.) and Terry Phillips (Jr., Kansas City, Mo.) have been named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District VII Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, it was announced this week. Both Beaver and Phillips were selected to the University Division second team for District VII. The 2009 MVC Cross Country champion, Phillips fought through an injury to finish eighth at the 2010 MVC Cross Country Championship. The showing earned her all-conference honors for the third consecutive year. On the track, she competed four times with two event wins during the indoor season, the mile- and 3,000-meter runs, and two second-place finishes. She has a 4.0 grade-point average in Biochemistry. Beaver was seventh at the MVC Outdoor Championships in the 5,000-meter run and fifth in the 10,000-meter run. She was also 16th at the MVC Cross Country Championships in the fall and earned Academic All-MVC honors in 2011 with a perfect 4.0 GPA in Elementary Education. Selections to the coSIDA Capital One Academic All-District VII Team are based on votes by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America from South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in athletic standing, maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.3 and be a starter or key reserve in their sport of selection.
