TULSA, Okla. - The Missouri State cross country team opened the 2013 season with several strong performances in the Hurricane Cross Country Festival at Mohawk Park on Saturday.
Sophomore Cindy Forde led the charge for the Bears with a time of 12:42 on the two-mile course. As a team, MSU went 1-3, topping Louisiana-Monroe, 21-44, but fell against No. 21 Oklahoma State (15-50), Oklahoma (15-49) and meet-host Tulsa (15-40).
"We did average," said head coach Alick Musukuma. "I was expecting to do better today, but the meet gives us a good idea of where we need to be later in the season."
Sophomore Olivia Francka finished 29th in 12:54 and classmate Tenaly Smith was 30th overall in 13:00. Freshman Megan Nickles crossed the line in 13:14 in 33rd place, while Mackenzie Weis (13:19), Erin Roebuck (13:23), Althia Maximilien (13:24) and Savannah Beaver (13:26) finished 35th-38th, respectively.
