The Missouri State volleyball team (9-3, 2-0 Missouri Valley Conference) opens a four-match road swing Friday at 7 p.m. against Wichita State before closing its non-conference schedule Sunday with a 2 p.m. match at Stephen F. Austin. Friday’s contest between the Bears and Shockers will pit two of the MVC’s four remaining unbeaten teams against each other.
The Opponents
Wichita State is 8-4 overall and 2-0 in MVC play while receiving the 31st-highest vote total in this week’s AVCA poll. The Shockers have won six of their last seven matches, including two victories over ranked opponents, and average 12.91 kills on .245 hitting, 15.31 digs, 2.03 blocks and 1.42 aces per set.
Stephen F. Austin is 6-8 overall and losers of six straight matches entering Southland Conference contests against Northwestern State and Central Arkansas prior to the MSU match. The Ladyjacks hit .180 as a team while opponents hit .210, and average 12.47 kills, 15.19 digs, 1.58 blocks and 1.02 aces per set. SFA has played one MVC team this season, losing 3-2 to Illinois State.
