Volleyball Bears Sweep Memphis on Night Two of Wynn Invitational
The Missouri State volleyball team earned its second win in as many days Friday by sweeping Memphis in the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational at Hammons Student Center in Springfield.
The Bears (3-2) used 13 kills and a .611 hitting percentage from sophomore Calli Norman to put away the Tigers (0-5) by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-18.
Norman combined with setter Julia Cawthra to block three Memphis attacks in the match’s first eight points, putting the Bears up 5-3 in the set. She finished with seven kills on nine swings in the first frame as the Bears cruised to the win.
Missouri State led by no more than four in the second set and trailed once at 10-9 in the closely contested period. Sophomore Megan Bess stood out with five kills and five digs to help the Bears edge the Tigers.
The MSU offense clicked on all cylinders in the third, hitting .400 behind six kills from Addie Foley and a perfect 4-for-4 effort from Norman. Cara Hackmann also notched eight of her match-high 20 digs in the final stanza.
Missouri State hosts two matches tomorrow, facing Mississippi State (1-4) at 12:30 p.m. and Stephen F. Austin (5-2) at 7:30 p.m.
