2012-13 Track & Field Schedule Get Acrobat Reader

The Missouri State track & field team announced its 2012-2013 schedule on Thursday. The reigning Missouri Valley Conference indoor champions will defend their title at the MVC Indoor Championships (Feb. 23-24). The indoor schedule is also highlighted by the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 8-9), while the outdoor agenda is headlined by the MVC Outdoor Championships (May 10-12) and NCAA Outdoor Championships (June 5-8).

"The schedule is challenging, but that is because the talent and dedication of the team will put us in position to compete at those positions," said Ron Boyce, director of track & field and cross country. "Going into the season as defending MVC champions will surely get the attention of the league.

"They will chase us, and we will chase something bigger. The schedule will definitely help prepare us for the battle."

The Bears will open their indoor campaign on Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Arkansas State University Kickoff Classic in Jonesboro, Ark. The team will take a month off before resuming competition on Jan. 11 and 12 at the Saluki Open in Carbondale, Ill.

A week later, MSU will return to its home state for the Missouri Invitational in Columbia on Friday, Jan. 18 before closing the month of January with the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet in Lexington, Ky. on Jan. 25 and 26.

The Bears are scheduled to open their February slate in Wichita, Kan. on Feb. 1 and 2 at the Varsity Apartments Invitational. The Bears will follow that meet with a trip on Feb. 8-9 to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Tyson Invitational, which will be their final tune-up before defending their indoor conference championship at the MVC meet in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Feb. 23-24.

Missouri State's student-athletes will then return to Fayetteville on Saturday, March 2 for the Arkansas Last Chance Meet before ending the indoor season on March 8-9 at the NCAA Indoor Championships, which will also be held in Fayetteville.

The Bears are lined up to open their outdoor campaign at the Tulsa Duals in Tulsa, Okla. on Saturday, March 16, before heading to Austin, Texas from March 27-30 for the Texas Relays. Depending on the results of the Texas Relays, the Bears could then compete at the Spring Classic in Carbondale on March 30.

Missouri State will then take a two-week hiatus before returning to action in Fayetteville yet again, this time at the John McDonnell Invitational on Saturday, April 13. About a week later, the Bears are slated to head south to Starkville, Miss. for the Jace Lacoste Invitational on April 19-20.

Boyce's charges will then get an up-close look at a MVC opponent when they compete in the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on April 24-27. That competition will be followed by the Arkansas Twilight Meet in Fayetteville on May 3, the last event before MVC and national competition.

The MVC Outdoor Championships will be hosted by Drake in Des Moines from May 10-12. Missouri State hopefuls will then compete in the NCAA Outdoor Preliminary Rounds in Austin, Texas from May 23-25 before heading to the Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. from June 5-8.
