NEW ORLEANS -- The NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship will begin this Thursday through Saturday with preliminary rounds being held in Austin, Texas (west site) and Jacksonville, Fla. (east site). Missouri State has eight entries in seven events at the Austin site, including five that are nationally ranked according to this week's  USTFCCCA National Computer Rankings.

Kimsue Grant (Jr., Arlington, Va.), who has qualified in both the long jump and triple jump events, ranks 18th nationally in the triple jump and 21st in the long jump. She will begin long jump competition in Austin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, before beginning the triple jump on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Grant is also part of the nationally-ranked 4x100 relay team which checked in at No. 24 in this week's Division I rankings. The team, which also includes Pernell Joseph (So., Vieux Fort, St. Lucia), Merica Moncherry (Fr., Micoud, St. Luicia), Althia Maximilien (Fr., Bridgetown, Barbados) and alternate Alyx Dull (So., Clinton, Mo.), will compete Thursday at 7:45 p.m.

Maximilien, who has qualified in the 400-meter dash, is tied for 39th in this week's rankings. Her first-round race begins shortly after 7:45 p.m. on Thursday.

The other MSU competitor cracking the national top 50 this week is discus specialist Jelani Kelly (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.). She begins competition in Austin on Friday morning at 11:00.

As a team, Missouri State ranks 101st out of 199 Division I women's programs in this week's computer team rankings.

Also competing for the Bears in the NCAA first-round this week are Joseph in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, as well as Moncherry in the 200. The first round for the 100-meter dash begins Thursday at 6:55 p.m., while the 200 starts Friday at 8:25 p.m.

Joseph, Moncherry, Grant, Maximilien and Dull were all named to the All-MVC Track & Field Team for their respective performances at the State Farm MVC Championships in Wichita, May 11-13. Joseph was the MVC champion in both 100 and 200-meter events, Grant was victorious in the long jump, and the 4x100 relay team also claimed gold for the Bears at the conference meet.
