Track and Field Team Concludes Second Day of MVC Outdoor Championship
 

 

 

The Missouri State women’s track and field team concluded day two of the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championship Saturday, May 17. The Bears are tied for fifth place after day two of competition with 26 points. Northern Iowa leads the meet with 104.50 points, followed by Southern Illinois with 71, Illinois State with 48.50, Wichita State with 33, MSU and Indiana State with 26 and Drake with three.

 

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, freshman Terry Phillips captured a second-place finish with a time of 10:38.34. Her mark is a NCAA regional qualifying time. Jamie Vest claimed third in the event, improving her previous NCAA qualifying mark with a personal best time of 10:38.42.

 

Carrie Vestal claimed third in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 36:37.04 and Mareneika Goffe earned third in the high jump competition, clearing a height of 5’5”.

 

In preliminary action, Rashida Allen and Couretnee Boulard qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash. Allen owns the seventh fastest time going into the finals with a time of 12.16. Boulard crossed the line just behind Allen in a time of 12.18.

 

In the 200-meter run, Leander Ernest finished in fourth-place with a personal best time of 24.42 qualifying for Sunday's finals. Boulard crossed the line just one second later in fifth with a personal best time of 24.43.

 

Two athletes qualified for the finals in the 400-meter run. Ernest finished in second-place in today’s preliminaries with a time of 55.05. Yaneika Malcolm claimed third with a personal best time of 55.10.

 

Asher Kyger won her section of the 800-meter run and owns the second fastest time going into the finals with a time of 2:11.98. Emily Fletcher qualified for the finals with an eighth-place finish in the event. Her time of 2:14.28 is a new personal best.

The MVC Outdoor Championship concludes Sunday, May 18. Competition is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. with an award ceremony following the last event.
