ST. LOUIS – Senior track and field standout Kimsue Grant was named a Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league announced Thursday (May 16).
Grant nabbed the award after a stellar weekend at the Missouri Valley Conference Track & Field Outdoor Championships, as she picked up two individual victories, claimed All-MVC laurels in four events and earned 36 of Missouri State’s 91 points.
The native of Arlington, Va. won the long jump and matched her personal best with a distance of 6.33 meters. Grant also took the gold in the triple jump with a mark of 12.79 meters. Both distances rank as the top marks in the Valley this season, and put her in good position to qualify for the NCAA preliminary rounds next week in Austin, Texas.
Among competitors in the NCAA West region, Grant’s long jump distance ranks ninth, and her triple jump mark is 15th. Grant also was part of Missouri State’s second-place 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay squads, both of which posted season-best times for the school. The 4x100 team crossed the finish line in 45.40, while the 4x400 team finished in 3:39.44.
Grant majors in accounting and carries a 3.34 cumulative GPA. Earlier this year, she was named Missouri State’s recipient of the spring MVC Leadership and Service Award.
The Valley’s Scholar-Athlete program honors student-athletes for their athletic performances for a one-week period, and academic success in the classroom. To qualify for Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20, have completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution, and be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
