Rono named MVC Scholar Athlete of the Week
Jonathan Rono, a member of the Missouri State track and field team, was named Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week of May 1-7, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced Wednesday afternoon. Rono, a sophomore from Kaptagat, Kenya, posted a fifth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run at the Ward Haylett Invitational in Manhattan, Kan., on May 6. Rono, who has a 3.06 cumulative grade-point average in nursing, finished the race in a season-best time of 3:53.20. The Bears’ track and field teams will compete at the 2006 State Farm/MVC Outdoor Track and Field Championship beginning on Friday, May 12, and continuing through Sunday, May 14, at Cessna Stadium in Wichita, Kan.
