Track and Field Bears Finish Regular Season at Arkansas Twilight
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - A small group of the track and field Bears competed at Friday's Arkansas Twilight in Fayetteville, Ark., the Bears' final meet before next weekend's Missouri Valley Conference Championships. Jordan Bond (So., Normal, Ill.) was the star of the night with a pair of personal bests and top-three finishes. In the triple jump, Bond was third with a jump of 40-09.50 feet. Bond now teams with Kimsue Grant (So., Arlington, Va.) and Ahshane Johnson (Fr., Moberly, Mo.) to give the Bears three of the top four triple jumpers in the MVC. Earlier in the evening, Bond was second in the high jump when she set a personal best of 5-06.00 feet. Jumping for the first time this outdoor season, Cheyenne Stewart (So., Christ Church, Barbados) showed the form that made her an all-MVC performer in 2010. Stewart finished third in the long jump with a near personal best mark of 18-00.25 feet. Junior Jeláni Kelly won the discus throw with a distance of 155-10.00 feet. The St. Louis, Mo., native set her personal best, 159-04.00, at last weekend's Kip Janvrin Open. Shantel Llewellyn's personal best in the 100-meter dash (11.93 seconds) earned her a second-place finish between two Razorbacks. The showing puts her third in the MVC in the event. The MVC Outdoor Championships await the Bears in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Live results and updates of the three-day meet, May 13-15, will be available by visiting www.MissouriStateBears.com.
