Track and Field Bears Add Five More to 2012-13 Roster

SPRINGFIELD - The Bears track and field squad announced the addition of five more athletes to their 2012-13 roster. Shani Adams, Elizabeth Borgsmiller, Me'Kayla Canady-McGee, Cindy Forde, and Shavonne Husbands will round out the Missouri State track and field freshmen class for next season the director of track and field and cross country Ron Boyce announced Friday afternoon (May 4). Shani Adams, Sprints/Distance – St. Michael, Barbados, Combermere Secondary School Adams is a successful middle distance runner with a variety of experience. She was the 400-meter dash champ at the Barbados National Junior Championships in 2009 in the U-17 girls division. This season she won the 300-meter hurdles at the Barbados School Championships. At the Louis Lynch Championships Adams won the 400-meter hurdles and finished second in the 800-meter run. Elizabeth Borgsmiller, Jumping Events – Sikeston, Mo., Sikeston High Borgsmiller lettered all four years in track and field at Sikeston High. During her freshman and sophomore seasons, Borgsmiller tied the school’s high jump record, only to break the record during her junior season. A three-time all-conference, all-district, and all-sectional high jumper, Borgsmiller competed in the state meet the previous three seasons. She was unbeatable during her junior season on the road to becoming the 2011 Missouri State Track Class 4 High Jump Champion. Borgsmiller also is an honors student at Sikeston High and also competes in cheerleading for the Bulldogs. Me’Kayla Canady-McGee, Sprints/Jumping Events – Grandview, Mo., Lincoln College Prep Canady-McGee is a two-time interscholastic league MVP for field events, earning the honor in her past two seasons at Lincoln College Prep. During her junior season, Canady-McGee finished third in state in the long jump. She was the conference and district champ in the 100-meter hurdles and long jump in 2011. In 2010, Canady-McGee earned all-metro team honors and finished sixth at the Junior Olympics in the triple jump. Canady-McGee was named team captain of her squad this season.
Cindy Forde, Sprints/Distance - Bridgetown, Barbados, Combermere Secondary School Forde is a two-time U-17 most outstanding overall female athlete for the Freedom Striders Track Club. She has won the 5,000-meter run the past three seasons, being named athlete of the year for her club the Freedom Striders during her U-15 career. In 2011 Forde won the 800-meter run and finished second in the 1,500-meter run at the CARIFTA Championships. She won the mile as a Freedom Strider in 2009 and 2011 in the National Championships. Forde was named the all-around school girl in 2010. Shavonne Husbands, Sprints - St. Phillips, Barbados, Combermere Secondary School Husbands was named the most outstanding women in her school during her senior season and was the most outstanding women in her track club the Freedom Striders during her junior season. Husbands won the silver medal at the 2010 CARIFTA Championships in the 100-meter dash and the bronze medal in the 200-meter dash. She was the U-15 champion in the 100-meter dash at the 2008 BSSAC and was a two-time champ at the CUT Championships in 2006 and 2008.
