 STARKVILLE, Miss. -
The Missouri State track & field team will take on arguably its toughest competition of the regular season when it travels to the Jace LaCoste Invitational at Mississippi State's Carl Maddox Track Complex Saturday.

The Bears will face three teams in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association top 25 in Florida State, which comes in No. 10, the host Bulldogs at No. 12 and Viginia Tech at No. 16.

Also at the meet will be Iowa State, Oklahoma from the Big 12 and UAB of Conference USA.

"It's the last meet before the conference championship and that will give us the opportunity to know almost exactly where we are with two weeks before conference championship," said MSU Director of Track & Field Ronald Boyce. "So, were looking for good weather and great competition, and I think we'll get both."

"When you are trying to get ready for your final epic battle, which would be the conference championship, you need to know who you really do have left," Boyce said. "So, whomever in available and able-bodied, you will put them in and try to get it done."

Missouri State will have up to 16 student-athletes competing in individual events in the meet, which opens with field events, including the long jump and shot put at noon and 12:30 p.m., respectively. Running events begin with the 4x100-meter relay at 2:30 p.m.

The Bears come into the meet looking to improve upon their marks ahead of the Missouri Valley Conference championships, including 12 that are on the top five of the league best list.

Missouri State boasts four marks that lead the conference, one of which was achieved last weekend at the Drake Relays. Sophomore Oarabile Babolayi now leads the Valley in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.36, while also sitting fifth in the 100 hurdles at 14.21. Babolayi is also second in the conference in the 400 meters with a time of 55.35 behind junior teammate Althia Maximilien (54.15).

The other two conference-leading marks for the Bears have come from sophomore Robiann Broomfield in the long jump and triple jump. The Clarendon, Jamaica, native has career-best efforts in both events this season. She leaped 12.83 meters (42 feet, 1.25 inches) in the triple jump and 5.94 meters (19 feet, six inches) at the Missouri Relays in April

The MVC championships are slated for Carbondale, Ill., May 16-18.
