ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Senior track and field standout Kimsue Grant was named Missouri State’s recipient of the spring Missouri Valley Conference Leadership and Service Award, the league announced Wednesday (April 24). Formerly the Good Neighbor Award, the award was created by the MVC to honor the achievements of exceptional student-athletes.

A 2012 USTFCCCA Outdoor All-American, Grant has posted a stellar senior campaign. The native of Arlington, Va. posted the top distances among all MVC student-athletes in the long jump (6.30m) and triple jump (12.89m) during the indoor season. Grant’s indoor season also included personal bests in the 55-meter dash (7.27), 60-meter dash (7.76) and 200-meter dash (24.77).

Grant has continued her success into the outdoor campaign, as she was named MVC Field Athlete of the Week after setting the season-best conference mark in the long jump (6.21m) at the Mississippi State Conference Challenge on March 23. In addition, Grant is second in the triple jump (12.71m), behind freshman teammate Robiann Broomfield. A six-time All-MVC pick, Grant also ranks No. 8 in the 100-meter dash (12.00) on the Valley list.

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be in good academic standing, demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport during the season of recognition. The Valley recognizes 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter and spring) for a total of 30 honorees. Institutions select their MVC Leadership & Service Award honorees.
