Nelson Moves up Bears' All-Time Performers List at Drake Relays
DES MOINES, Iowa - Senior Staci Nelson became Missouri State's fourth all-time performer in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with her performance at Thursday's 101st running of the Drake Relays. The Chatham, Ill., native finished in 10:35.43, moving up the Bears' performers list and passing former teammate Jamie Vest's 2008 time along the way.
Nelson now trails only Casey DeWitt, Erin Sutton and leader, and teammate, Terry Phillips who holds the top spot on the list (10:19.45).
Her personal best by nearly 10 seconds was good for a fourth-place finish Thursday, and solidified her as the top steeplechaser in the Missouri Valley Conference. She has the fastest time of any MVC runner by more than 18 seconds.
Nelson won her only previous steeplechase this season at the Ole Miss Invitational, April 10.
The rest of the track and field squad will be in action Saturday, April 24, at the Redbird Spring Invitational in Normal, Ill.
