After taking a week away from competition, the Missouri State track and field team returns to action on Friday and Saturday (April 12-13) at the K.T. Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kan. The two-day event at Cessna Stadium will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The Bears will be joined at the meet by fellow Valley member Wichita State and a slew of other competitors from the Midwest, including Kansas State and Nebraska-Omaha.

Sophomore Haley Scott will open the competition for the Bears in the javelin on Friday evening. Scott set a new personal best in that event on March 30 with a distance of 20.00 meters.

Seniors Emily Beaver and Nicole Thate and freshmen Tenaly Smith and Olivia Francka will follow up Scott's outing in the 1,500-meter run. Smith smashed her previous best time in the 1,500-meter run at the Razorback Spring Invitational on March 30 by crossing the finish line in 4:52.32, more than 15 seconds better than her previous best.

The Bears will send their sprint stalwarts to compete in Saturday's events. Sophomore Althia Maximilien is ready to race in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. She'll be joined by freshman Shavonne Husbands, junior Pernell Joseph and senior Kimsue Grant in the 100. Freshman Robiann Broomfield and Scott are slated to run the 200.

Meanwhile, MSU freshmen will look to impress in the 400-meter dash, as rookie runners Oarabile Babolayi, Chelsie Horton and Josie Dyke are set to compete in that event.

Missouri State's jumps entries are highlighted by Grant, who will compete in the triple jump and long jump. She owns the best distance this season among Missouri Valley Conference jumpers in the long jump with a distance of 6.21 meters.

Junior Jessica Dantin is scheduled in three Saturday throwing events. The native of Wildwood, Mo. will compete in the shot put, discus, and hammer. She has personal bests of 10.55 meters in the shot put and 38.71 meters in the discus. She'll make her outdoor debut in the hammer throw in Wichita.
