Track and Field Competes in Big Bear Invitational
Missouri State’s Asher Kyger claimed first-place in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:02.38 at the MSU Big Bear Invitational at Plaster Sports Complex Saturday, April 5. Kyger distanced herself by more than 30 seconds from Iowa State’s Stacey Thiel who crossed the line at 10:35.27. In the 1500 meter run, sophomore Emily Fletcher captured first-place with a personal best time of 4:40.25 and teammate Staci Nelson claimed fourth in a personal best time of 4:55.24. The Bears finished second, third and fourth in the 400 meter dash. Leander Ernest clocked a time of 55.60 to take second, Yaneika Malcolm finished in 56.06 to claim third and Jacqui Lindsey crossed the line with a personal best time of 56.61 to take fourth. MSU’s Alexandira Oembler took second in the 100 meter hurdles (14.52) and Leneice Rolle finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.93). Missouri State’s Courtenee Boulard crossed the finish line with a time of 12.16 to place fourth in the 100 meter dash with teammates Shawntee Middlebrook (12.51) and Rashida Allen (12.54) right behind to take fifth- and sixth-place. Allen’s time of 24.98 was good enough for a second-place finish in the 200 meter dash behind Lincoln’s Shanna-Kay Wright. Boulard finished the race with a time of 25.23 to take fourth. In the field events, freshman Shawnte Middlebrook took first in the triple jump with a personal best mark of 38’5" and second in the long jump with a 17'6" mark. Deandrea Rolle took first in the discus throw with a 121’1" mark, second in the hammer throw with a 122’01" mark and third in the shot put with a throw of 37’10". Sofie Blount took second-place in the discus throw (112’4") and second-place in the javelin throw (110’10"). In the high jump competition, Mareneika Goffe set a new outdoor personal best mark of 5’5". Her mark in the high jump ranks fifth in the MSU record books. The Bears will be back in action April 17-19 when they travel to Lawrence, Kans. to compete in the Kansas Relays.
