March 27, 2013
The Missouri State track and field squad is set to resume competition on Saturday (March 30) at the Razorback Spring Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark. The meet is slated for a start time of 9:30 a.m. CDT at John McDonnell Field.
Saturday's event will feature some of the best talent in the Midwest, as the Bears will be tested against a field that includes two women's squads that were nationally ranked in the USTFCCCA preseason outdoor poll. That list includes No. 12 Arkansas and No. 19 Nebraska. Missouri Valley Conference members Wichita State and Drake are also booked for the Invitational.
The Bears will put their future on display in sprint events, as four freshmen are scheduled to compete in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter dashes. Chelsie Horton will be the lone MSU competitor in the 100, but will be joined by fellow freshman Josie Dyke in the 200. Meanwhile, freshman Cindy Forde and junior Alyx Dull look to better their personal-best times in the 400.
Sophomore Althia Maximilien is lined up to make her outdoor debut in the 800-meter run. The distance event is Maximilien's first since the indoor Indiana University Relays on Jan. 27, 2012, when she ran the 800 in 2:13.23. She will be joined in the event by freshman Oarabile Babolayi, who also makes her 800-meter debut on Saturday. Senior distance stalwart Emily Beaver, freshman Holly Pattie-Belleli and sophomore Haley Scott round out the field.
In field events, Pattie-Belleli and Scott are also down to compete in the shot put and javelin. Both student-athletes competed in the shot put at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships in January, but will make their debuts in the javelin.
