Track & Field Bears Open Outdoor Season at Tulsa Duels

Missouri State Bears at Tulsa Duels
TULSA, Okla. -- The Missouri State track & field team opens the 2014 outdoor season this weekend at the Tulsa Duels as one of 11 teams competing at the Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium.
The Bears will compete in the javelin beginning Friday at 7 p.m., while the first full day of action is Saturday starting 9 a.m., with the discus. Running events open at 1 p.m., wit the 2,000-meter steeplechase.
Missouri State will be joined by the host Golden Hurricane, UMKC, Oral Roberts, Oklahoma State, South Dakota, Nebraska Omaha, Northwestern Missouri State, Southern Nazarene, Southwest Christian and Langston.
The Bears are coming off of a seventh-place finish the MVC indoor championships and are looking to build on a fifth-place finish in last year’s conference outdoor meet.
Husbands also posted her second-best time in the 100 meters of the season at Tulsa of 11.59. Senior Gemma Smith and sophomore Betsy Borgsmiller also turned in her best high jump marks of the season at Tulsa last season, both leaping 1.60 meters.
Following the Tulsa Duels, Missouri State will travel to Nashville, Tenn., to take part in the Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invitational.
