Five members of the Missouri State track and field squad will attempt to improve their season marks on Friday (March 1) at the Arkansas Final Qualifier at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. The Qualifier is slated for a noon CST start, and is for competitors who seek to improve their times or distances in advance of the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Junior sprinter Pernell Joseph will compete in the 60-meter dash. At last weekend’s Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships, Joseph set a new school record in the 60 meters with a time of 7.48 seconds.
Freshman sprinter Shavonne Husbands will join sophomore Althia Maximilien in the 200-meter dash. Earlier this season, Husbands tied the Missouri State record in the 200 with a time of 23.97 seconds. Maximilien, a 2012 NCAA Outdoor All-American Honorable Mention, will look to better her time of 24.36 seconds.
Freshman Oarabile Babolayi and Maximilien will compete in the 400-meter dash. Babolayi will attempt to improve upon the 56.35 mark that she set in late January, while Maximilien will try to topple her season- and personal-best mark of 54.11 seconds.
In field events, Kimsue Grant will attempt to bolster her resume in the long jump and triple jump. Grant, a senior, set new personal best distances in both events last weekend at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships. Her leaps of 6.30 meters and 12.66 meters in the long and triple, respectively, earned her first-place finishes at the league meet.
The 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships are slated for March 8-9 in Fayetteville, Ark. The first day of the championship meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CST, while day two will get started at 11 a.m.
