MSU Track and Field Team Concludes Day One Of MVC Indoor Championship
The Missouri State track and field team concluded Friday's day one of the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship, in Carbondale, Ill. The Bears' scored six top-ten finishes on the first day and two MSU athletes qualified for Saturday's finals.
MSU's Alexandria Oembler finished second in preliminary competition in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.84 and will compete in the final competition in tomorrow's conclusion of the championship. Oembler also added a 10th-place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line at 25.51.
Leander Ernest won the preliminary 400-meter dash race in a time of 55.85 and will look for a gold medal at Saturday's finals.
Multi-event specialist Kim Carter placed seventh in the pentathlon, winning two of the five events, with a score of 3,282. She finished 10th in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.62, fifth in the high jump, clearing 5'0 1/2", first in the shot put with a distance of 38'10 1/4", first in the long with a leap of 18'5 3/4", and 14th in the 800-meter run.
In the 5,000-meter run, MSU's Carrie Vestal and Jamie Vest took at fifth and sixth-place finish. Vestal placed fifth in 17:44. 14 and Vest was sixth in 17:57.62.
Ashley Harris rounded out the individual top-ten finishes for the Bears with a 10th-place finish in the long jump, marking a distance of 18'1".
The Missouri State distance medley relay team recorded a time of 12:03.73 to finish fifth overall.
The Bears are currently seventh with five team points and Wichita State leads the meet with 64 points after the first day. The Meet will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 24.
