2013 MVC Indoor Heat Sheets
About a year ago, the Missouri State track and field team reclaimed the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championship. The time has come for the Bears to defend their title. The Bears will trek to Cedar Falls, Iowa this weekend to seek their seventh MVC indoor crown on Feb. 23-24 at the UNI Dome. Both days of the meet are slated to start at 9:30 a.m. CST.
The Bears were picked to finish fifth in the pre-championship meet poll with 38 points.
2012 NCAA Outdoor All-Americans Althia Maximilien and Kimsue Grant headline Missouri State's entries at the meet hosted by Northern Iowa. Grant will compete in the long jump and triple jump, two events in which she has dominated this season. Grant is ranked 12th nationally in the long jump (6.21m) and 24th in the triple jump (12.57m), and leads Missouri Valley Conference student-athletes in both events.
Maximilien will bring a No. 31 national ranking and top Valley mark in the 400-meter dash (54.11) to Cedar Falls as she competes in sprint events for the Bears. Maximilien also ranks third in the conference in the 200-meter dash (24.66).
Meanwhile, head coach Ronald Boyce will send several runners to compete in distance events. That list consists of a solid blend of experience and youth, as a slew of freshmen will join seniors Nicole Thate and Emily Beaver and junior Lisa Imgrund in long-range races.
Fellow sprinters Shavonne Husbands and Pernell Joseph will also look to score some big points for Missouri State at the league meet. Husbands, a freshman, has been especially impressive in her rookie season. She tied a school record in the 200-meter dash (23.97) at the Tyson Invitational, which ranks as the top conference time and the 44th-best mark among Division I sprinters this season.
Joseph has also been spectacular this year for the Bears, as the junior owns the second-best conference time in the 60-meter dash (7.51) and fourth-best MVC time in the 200-meters (24.83).
The Bears will look to score some additional points in the pentathlon. Freshman Holly Pattie-Belleli and sophomore Haley Scott will attempt the challenging series of events, which includes 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800m run.
