Ernest Named MVC Women's Track Athlete of the Week Again
For the second time this indoor season, Leander Ernest was named the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. She previously was honored the week of January 27, 2009. In total, Ernest has now gathered 10 MVC Athlete of the Week honors in her career at Missouri State.
Last weekend at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, Ernest again broke the school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.14. It is also her home country of St Lucia’s National Indoor record for the event and tied for the fastest in the Valley this season. She placed third in the event and currently ranks 15th in the nation this season. In addition, Ernest was a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that ran a Valley leading time of 3:44.16. Along with teammates Kindra Perkins, Rashida Allen and Yaneika Malcolm, the relay team placed fourth at the Iowa State Classic. The Missouri State track and field team will be in action next at the State Farm MVC Indoor Championships held in Cedar Falls, Iowa, February 28 through March 1, 2009.
