The Bears will take on 14 teams, including the host Tigers, Memphis, Arkansas State and SIU Edwardsville. The meet kicks off with the weight throw to start the day's field events. The first running event of the meet will be the 5,000 meters.
Missouri State comes into the meet on the heels of a fourth-place finish at the Varsity Apartments Invitational, hosted by Missouri Valley Conference foe Wichita State. The Bears posted several quality performances at the Heskett Center, seven of which were good for top-10 spots on the Valley best list.
Senior sprinter Pernell Joseph ran a season-best 7.61 in the 60 meters to jump to No. 2 in the event in the conference this season. Junior multi Haley Scott achieved a career best in the high jump. Scott's 1.70-meter effort was 10 centimeters better than her last best mark in the event and now ranks third in the league.
Scott also came up with a strong pentathlon finish with a career-high 3,312 points to place seventh in the Valley currently.
Junior Chelsey Borders ran 7.64 in the 60 meters at Wichita, a time that places her sixth on the best list in the race. Sophomore Shavonne Husbands also clocked the sixth best time in the in the conference in the 200 meters at 24.97.
Missouri State also won a pair of events at Wichita last Saturday. The Bears claimed the 4x400-meter relay in 3:51.37 and sophomore Robiann Broomfield took the triple jump with a mark of 12.01 meters.
Following the Missouri Invitational, MSU will head back to Ames, Iowa, for the second time this season to compete in the Iowa State Classic Feb. 14-15, in their final outing before the MVC championships.
