Ernest named Valley Track Athlete of The Week
Standout freshman Leander Ernest has been named this week's Missouri Valley Conference Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. This is her second honor this season. Ernest finished second in the 400-meter dash in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 54.38 to the reigning NCAA champion Kineke Alexander of Iowa at Saturday's Husker Invitational. The Castries, St. Lucia, native has recorded the four fastest 400-meter times in the MVC this season and has improved her personal best in every race. Ernest and the rest of the Bears' track team will be back in competition Fri.-Sat., Feb. 9-10, for the Iowa State Invitational in Ames, Iowa.
