Missouri State Bears at Varsity Apartments Invitational
WICHITA, Kan. - The Missouri State track & field team heads to the Varsity Apartments Invitational at Wichita State starting Friday for a two-day meet at the Heskett Center.
The Bears are one of five Division I teams slated to compete on the weekend, which gets underway at 10:30 a.m., on Friday with the pentathlon Friday's running events begin at 4:30 p.m., with the 5,000 meters. The triple jump leads off the field events at 6 p.m.
Saturday's action starts at 10 a.m., with the shot put followed by the 60-meter hurdles at 1:50 p.m., Saturday.
The Bears will be joined by the host Shockers, Oral Roberts, Stephen F. Austin and Texas-Arlington.
Missouri State will be looking to build on some strong performances from last week at Indiana.
Freshman Kirstie Leslie broke the MSU record in the pole vault, leaping 3.35 meters, besting Jayne Kristman's mark of 3.34 meters set in Lawrence, Kan., in 2005.
The pole vault school record is the second set this season for the Bears. Junior Althia Maximilien broke the school record in the 300 meters at the season-opening Holiday Preview at Iowa State on Dec. 6. She ran 39.31 to top Cheasa Gibson's 39.80 from Jan. 12, 2002, at Illinois
After the Varsity Apartment's Invitational this weekend, Missouri State will travel to the Missouri Invitational in Columbia Friday. Events there are set to begin at 2 p.m.
