Varsity Apartments Invitational Information
Following its toughest competition of the season in SEC country, the Missouri State track and field team will resume action on Feb. 1-2 at the Varsity Apartments Invitational in Wichita, Kan.
Missouri State will be joined at the Heskett Center by several other teams, including Oklahoma, Wichita State, Nebraska-Omaha, Sam Houston State and Texas-Arlington. Friday’s events are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m., while the Saturday meet will get underway at 11 a.m.
Sophomore Althia Maximilien will help lead the Bears into Wichita and is slated to compete in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. The sprinter posted a stellar performance at last weekend’s Rod McCravy Memorial Meet, as she set new personal best times in the 200-meter (24.36 seconds) and 400-meter (54.35) dashes.
Maximilien’s 400-meters time ranks as the event’s fastest among all Division I runners in the Midwest, and is also the fifth-best 400-meters performance in Missouri State history.
A slew of Missouri State sprinters are scheduled to join Maximilien in the 200-meter dash, including Shavonne Husbands and Kimsue Grant. Among Missouri Valley Conference student-athletes, Husbands and Maximilien rank first and second, respectively, in the 200. Grant set a 200-meters personal-best time of 24.77 seconds last weekend at the McCravy Memorial, and ranks eighth on the list.
A pair of Bears freshmen will make their Missouri State debuts in Wichita, as Me'Kayla McGee will compete in the long jump and triple jump, and Olivia Francka will join a trio of MSU juniors and seniors in the mile run.
Grant is not scheduled to compete in jumps at Wichita, but the senior continues to hold the best distances among all MVC student-athletes in the long jump and triple jump. Grant set a personal best in the long jump last weekend with a mark of 6.21 meters.
