Several Bears Impressive in Day Two at Missouri Southern

The Missouri State track and field team returned to Joplin, Mo., for the second day of the Fazoli’s/Baymont Inn Missouri Southern Open Invitational.  On the day, the Bears placed seven athletes in the top-five.

Senior Alexandria Oembler led the Bears with a victory in the final of the 60-meter hurdles.  Her victorious time of 8.68 seconds was also her personal best in the event.  Teammate Rashida Allen finished third with a time of 8.95 seconds, also a personal best.

The Bears also dominated the 60-meter dash.  Junior Cortene Boulard set a personal best with a time of 7.74 seconds, good for second-place in the event.  Newcomer Shantel Llewellyn made an immediate impact, finishing fourth in the 60-meter dash at a time of 7.97 seconds in her first event as a member of the Bears’ squad.

Shawnt Middlebrook followed her dominant performance yesterday with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump.  Meanwhile, freshman Kindra Perkins placed third in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:25.36.

The high jump saw both Goffe twins finish in the top-10.  Mareneika Goffe placed second with a distance of 1.64 meters (5-04.50 feet).  Sister Zaleika Goffe placed seventh with a distance of 1.54 meters (5-00.50 feet).

Missouri State’s track and field team will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., next week to compete in the Arkansas Razorback Invitational.  The two-day meet will begin on Friday at 12:00 p.m. at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
