AUSTIN, Texas -- Missouri State freshman Althia Maximilien (Bridgetown, Barbados) has moved on to the national semifinals in the 400-meter dash with a third-place effort in her quarterfinal heat here Friday evening at the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships. Maximilienn registered a 53.38 time in the quarterfinals, her second-fastest mark of the season, to rank ninth among the 27 quarterfinalists.
She will advance to the three-heat national semifinals in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday, June 6 at 7 p.m. The top two finishers in each heat in Des Moines, plus the next two fastest times, advance to the national finals on June 8.
Also Friday, fellow MSU freshman Merica Moncherry (Micoud, St. Lucia) moved on to the quarterfinals in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.10. Out of 47 competitors, her time ranks 22nd headed into Saturday's second round, which begins at 7:50 p.m. Moncherry out-sprinted teammate Pernell Joseph (So., Vieux Fort, St. Lucia), the 2012 MVC outdoor champion in the event.
