Track & Field Bears Wrap Up Day One of NCAA West Regional

AUSTIN, Texas – A trio of Missouri State student-athletes came up short in their bids to advance beyond the first round of the NCAA West regional track and field meet here Thursday (May 23).

Oarabile Babolayi (Fr., Mosetse, Botswana) raced to a time of 59.97 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, good for a 29th-place finish. Babolayi missed qualifying for the next round by about a quarter of a second.

Althia Maximilien (So., Bridgetown, Barbados) followed that performance by placing 28th in the first round of the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.30 seconds, only 0.18 seconds behind the final qualifying spot.

Finally, senior Kimsue Grant (Arlington, Va.) was 30th in the long jump with a top distance of 5.90 meters.

Freshman Shavonne Husbands (St. Philip, Barbados) is slated to compete in the first round of the 200-meter dash Friday at 8 p.m.
