DES MOINES, Iowa – Shavonne Husbands and Kimsue Grant claimed individual victories, and five Missouri State student-athletes earned All-MVC distinction Sunday (May 12) to help lead the Bears to a fifth-place finish at the Missouri Valley Conference Track & Field Outdoor Championships.
Missouri State finished with 91 points for its fifth-place finish. Indiana State took the crown with 166.5 points, and was followed by Wichita State (165), Illinois State (136) and Southern Illinois (119). Northern Iowa (76.5), Drake (41) and Bradley (23) were sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
Husbands’ third victory in two days came in the 200-meter dash finals, which she finished in 23.56 seconds, a personal best time. Sophomore Althia Maximilien was the runner-up in the 200 with a personal-best mark of 23.63 seconds.
Maximilien also earned a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.25 seconds, the fifth-fastest time in school history.
Grant won the triple jump with a distance of 12.79 meters. Freshman Robiann Broomfield was sixth (12.41 meters), and junior Gemma Smith’s mark of 12.13 meters was good for a personal best and an eighth-place finish. Meanwhile, senior Jordan Bond was 10th (11.61 meters).
Joseph, Grant, Husbands and Maximilien also worked well as a group, teaming up to claim second place in the 4x100-meter relay in 45.40 seconds.
Freshman Oarabile Babolayi had another strong showing in the 400-meter hurdles, placing third with a personal-best time of 59.67 seconds.
