Track and Field Bears Provide Excitement and Personal Bests in Day Two of the Valley Championships

The track and field Bears saved some of their best performances of their careers for the second day of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships. Missouri State wrapped up events Saturday (May 12) night at Cessna Stadium in Wichita, Kan.
Kimsue Grant won the long jump with a distance of 20-09.25. The distance was a personal best for Grant and shattered her previous personal best by over a foot and makes her the Bears’ third best performer in the event in MSU history. Jeláni Kelly won her flight in the shot put with a personal best throw of 47-07.25. Kelly’s distance furthered her rank as the Bears’ top performer in the event in MSU history.
Three of the Bears’ sprinters qualified for the 100-meter dash finals. Merica Moncherry finished second in her heat with a personal best 11.76, Pernell Joseph finished third in her heat with a personal best 11.70, and Kimsue Grant finished fourth in her heat with a personal best 11.96 in the event. Joseph and Moncherry also qualified for the 200-meter dash finals. Joseph won the preliminaries with a personal best time of 23.76. Moncherry finished second in her heat with a personal best time of 23.81, while Althia Maximilien won her heat with a time of 24.18. Maximilien also finished second in the 400-meter dash preliminaries with a time of 54.67.
Emily Beaver won her heat and finished second overall in the 800-meter run preliminaries. Beaver ran the event in a personal best time of 2:10.43. Gabriella Ade-Onojobi finished third in her 100-meter dash preliminary heat in 14.12, a time good enough to qualify for the event finals.
After nine scored events (11 remaining), the Bears are in sixth place with 11 points. The final day of events will begin at noon Sunday (May 13).
