DES MOINES, Iowa –
Sophomore Oarabile Babolayi ran a career-best time in the 400-meter hurdles prelims to lead the Missouri State track & field team in the 105th Drake Relays on Friday.

Babolayi, a native of Mosetse, Botswana, finished the race in a time of 59.36 to win her heat over Drake’s Sarah Yeager (1:00.21) and Ashley Heinze (1:00.22) of North Dakota State. Babolayi finished ninth overall in the event.

Later in the day, Babolayi, led off the Bears’ 4x400-meter relay, which finished with a season-best time of 3:42.05 and included junior Althia Maximilien and sophomores Shavonne Husbands and Chelsie Horton.

Husbands and senior Pernell Joseph finished back-to-back in the 100-meter dash prelims in 15th and 16th overall. Husbands ran 11.96 while Joseph followed in 11.98.

MSU completed the day with its first 4x200-meter relay run of the season. The Missouri State team comprised of Joseph, Maximilien, Husbands and Horton placed seventh in a solid time of 1:37.12

Missouri State concludes the weekend on Saturday with the triple jump and sprint-medley relay, which begin at 9 and 10 a.m., respectively.
