Track & Field Bears Secure Three Career Bests to Close Kansas Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Missouri State track & field team posted three career bests and three season bests on the final day of the 87th Kansas Relays at Rock Chalk Park Saturday.
Sophomore Oarabile Babolayi turned in one of each on the day, including a career best in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing fifth overall in 13.81, and a season best in the 400 hurdles. She ran the 400-meter hurdles in 59.86 to finish second, breaking the one-minute mark for the first time this season.
The 100-meter finals saw junior Chelsey Borders and senior Pernell Joseph, take fourth and fifth places, respectively. Borders clocked a career-best time of 11.75, while Joseph went 11.79 for her top time of the season in the event.
Sophomore Shavonne Husbands racked up the Bears' final personal best of the day in the 200 meters, running 23.92 to best her previous mark by five one hundredths of a second.
Junior Althia Maximilien ran fourth overall in the 400 meters in a time of 55.10.
In the long jump pit, senior Gemma Smith leaped to an eighth-place finish with a season-best mark of 5.78 meters (18 feet, 11.75 inches). Sophomore Robiann Broomfield was 14th overall with a top mark of 5.62 meters (18 feet, 5.25 inches) for the Bears.
The Missouri State 4x100-meter relay squad of Borders, Joseph, Maximilien and Husbands finished third in 46.27 behind Kansas (45.23) and Nebraska (46.14).
The Bears return to action at the Drake Relays, which begin Wednesday and run through Saturday, in Des Moines, Iowa.
