Final Qualifier Results
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Missouri State track and field standouts Althia Maximilien and Kimsue Grant delivered clutch performances at the Arkansas Final Qualifier on Friday, and both may have earned return trips here next weekend for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Maximilien's personal-best 400-meter dash time of 53.06 seconds was the second-best time in school history and vaulted her into contention to qualify for the NCAA meet on March 8-9 in Fayetteville. At the moment, Maximilien's time ranks as the 16th-fastest on the Division I qualifying list.
The top 16 performers in individual events and the top 12 eligible relay teams will move on to the championships. That list will be determined after this weekend.
Grant smashed her previous best in the triple jump by delivering a mark of 12.89 meters, good for the 20th-best distance on the qualifying list. Grant also posted a distance of 5.98 meters in the long jump. However, her long jump mark of 6.30 meters set last weekend at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships is tied for 14th in the country.
Freshman Oarabile Babolayi ran a personal-best 56.24 in the 400-meter dash. In the 60-meter dash, junior Pernell Joseph raced to times of 7.70 and 7.72 in the preliminary round and finals, respectively. Freshman Shavonne Husbands finished the 200-meter dash in 24.15 seconds.
The NCAA Indoor Championships meet is scheduled for March 8-9 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville. Day one is slated to get started at 10 a.m. CST, while Saturday's events will commence at 11 a.m.
