Joseph, Borders Finish First, Second in 60-Meter Finals at Iowa State Classic

AMES, Iowa - AMES, Iowa - Senior Pernell Joseph and junior Chelsey Borders posted a 1-2 finish in the 60-meter dash finals to pace the Missouri State track & field team on the second day of the Iowa State Classic Saturday.
Joseph ran 7.57, just one-hundredth of a second off of tying her season best in the event. Borders turned in a personal best of 7.59 in the event.
Sophomore Shavonne Husbands clocked a 7.84, placing seventh in the 60 for the Bears.
Another sophomore, Oarabile Babolayi ran to third place in the unseeded 400-meter dash in a personal-best time of 56.00, topping her last best mark of 56.24 at the Arkansas Final Qualifier last season. Babolayi was seven-tenths of a second from winning the race.
Junior Althia Maximilien also finished third in the seeded 400 meters in 54.31, a season-best time by nearly a second and a half. Freshman Rosalie Pringle, coming off of a victory in the 400 last week at Missouri placed 11th this Saturday in 57.66.
Sophomore Robiann Broomfield was the top MSU finisher among four in the triple jump. She finished fourth with a mark of 12.16 meters (39 feet, 10.75 inches). Senior Gemma Smith posted a season-best leap of 11.54 meters (37 feet, 10.5 inches) to place 10th. Junior Haley Scott was 12th with a mark of 11.26 meters (36 feet, 11.5 inches), while freshman Kirstie Leslie was 16th with a leap of 10.57 meters (34 feet, 8.25 inches).
The Bears closed the meet with a ninth-place 4x400-meter relay effort, Pringle, Babolayi, Husbands and Maximilien ran 3:46.96, the Bears' top time in the event this season.
Missouri State will now gear up for the MVC indoor track & field championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa, slated for March 1-2.
