Joseph Qualifies First for 60-Meter Finals at Iowa State Classic

AMES, Iowa - Senior Pernell Joseph ran 7.61 in the 60-meter dash prelims to lead the Missouri State track & field team on the first day of the Iowa State Classic at the Lied Recreation Center Friday.
Joseph's time gives her the first seed in the 60-meter finals, set for 1:20 p.m., on Saturday. Joseph paced a field which included athletes from Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota and Iowa State, among others.
Sophomore Cindy Forde turned in one of the Bears' two personal bests on the day. Forde ran 1:27.03 in the 600 yards to place 14th overall.
Junior Althia Maximilienpaced a group of five MSU athletes in the 200 meters in 24.58 to place seventh. Joseph (24.85) and Husbands (24.99) were 13th and 16th, respectively. Borders ran a personal-best 25.52, placing 26th overall.
In field events, sophomore Robiann Broomfield was sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.54 meters (18 feet, 2.25 inches). Classmate Betsy Borgsmillertied for 13th in the high jump with a leap of 1.60 meters (five feet, three inches), as well.
The second day of competition opens with the triple jump at 11 a.m.
