Bears Finish Gladstein Invitational on High Note

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Missouri State track & field team closed the Gladstein Invitational at Indiana's Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse with some strong early-season results.
The Bears' 4x400-meter relay squad made up of junior Althia Maximilien, sophomores Oarabile Babolayi and Shavonne Husbands and freshman Erin Roebuck turned in a solid fourth-place finish in 3:47.93, trailing teams from Purdue, Ohio State and Saint Louis.
Senior Pernell Joseph and junior Chelsey Borders earned entry into the 200-meter dash invitational and did not disappoint. Joseph finished in a tie for sixth in 25.78, while Borders was 10th with a time of 26.54.
In the long jump pit, senior Gemma Smith paced of a group of three Bears to a 12th-place finish with a mark of 5.36 meters (17 feet, seven inches). Freshman Kirstie Leslie was 17th with a 5.19-meter leap (17 feet, one-half inch) a day after setting the school record in the pole vault at 3.35 meters. The original mark of 3.34 meters, established by Jayne Kristmann, stood for nine years.
Sophomore Holly Pattie Belleli was 24th overall in the long jump with an effort of 4.58 meters (15 feet, one-half inch).
Missouri State returns to action next Friday and Saturday at the Varsity Apartments Invitational at Wichita State.
