Joseph Qualifies for 60-Meter Finals on First Day of Holiday Inn Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. - Senior sprinter Pernell Josephran fifth in the 60-meter dash prelims for the Missouri State track & field team in 7.68 seconds Friday to qualify for Saturday's final at the Holiday Invitational.
The time for Joseph, a 2012-13 All-MVC performer in the event, puts her in the final of the race set to go off at 12:10 p.m., on the day two of the competition hosted by Nebraska at the Devaney Sports Center.
The Bears received a pair of personal-best performances to begin the meet on a high note.
Junior Haley Scottleaped 5.26 meters (17 feet, 3.25 inches), placing sixth in the long jump. Scott's mark topped her previous best of 5.23 meters, set at the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference championships on Feb. 23.
Despite the personal best from Scott, sophomore Robiann Broomfieldoutdueled her to finish fifth in the event with a jump of 5.34 meters (17 feet, 6.25 inches).
Scott, though, also was seventh in the high jump with an effort of 1.55 meters (five feet, one inch).
Freshman Kirstie Lesliecontinued her steady improvement on the young season with a third-place pole vault effort of 3.30 meters (10 feet, 10 inches), bettering her last top mark of 3.21 meters from the Bears' season-opening Holiday Preview at Iowa State on Dec. 6.
Sophomores Cindy Forde and Tenaly Smith ran ninth and 12th in the 800 meters, clocking times of 2:21.65 and 2:23.90, respectively. Classmate Oarabile Babolayiwas MSU's top finisher in the 60-meter hurdles. She was 10th in the race in 9.04.
The second day of the meet gets underway at 11 a.m., Saturday with the shot put.
