Bears Set Three Personal Bests; Finish Second at Arkansas Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Missouri State track & field team set three individual personal bests in the Arkansas Invitational at Randall Tyson Track Center Friday.
The Bears scored 50 points as a team to finish second overall in the three-team meet. MSU topped Tulsa, which scored 41, while the host Razorbacks to the title with 136.
Dantin set a personal best with a toss of 14.08 meters (46 feet, two inches) and Broomfield did the same with a leap of 12.29 meters (40 feet, four inches).
Sophomore Cindy Forde ran the 600 meters in 1:38.60 to place fourth overall but tops among collegiate competitors in the race.
Senior Pernell Joseph finished second in the 60 meters, clocking identical 7.67 times in the prelims and finals. Joseph led a group of three Bears who qualified for the finals in the event. Junior Chelsey Borders and sophomore Shavonne Husbands were fourth and sixth, respectively, in times of 7.74 and 8.08.
Borders, who made her NCAA Division I debut at the meet following two years at Johnson County Community College, was also 10th in the 200 meters in 28.08. Junior Althia Maximilien finished fourth in the 200 in 24.91, while Husbands was seventh in 25.48.
Meanwhile, freshman jumper Kirstie Leslie turned in a 3.13-meter (10 feet, 3.25 inches) effort in the pole vault, finishing fifth.
The Bears return to action starting Jan. 17 for the two-day Holiday Inn Invitational at Nebraska the meet at the Devaney Center is slated to begin at 4 p.m.
