Missouri State Director of Athletics Kyle Moats announced the hiring of Jordan Fife as the Bears head coach of cross country as well as track & field assistant coach in 2014.

Fife made many improvements in the 2015 cross country season after the Bears earned a 10th place finish at the MVC Championships in 2014, earning eighth-place in 2015.

He coached senior standout Cindy Forde as she improved to the second-fastest 5-kilometer runner in program history at MSU. Fife is hoping that his young cross country squad can help contribute to the track program as he added seven to the 2015 program.

Fife comes to the Bears after being the boys and girls cross country coach at Bloomington High School South in Bloomington, Ind., since 2011.

"We're excited to have Jordan as a member of the Bear family," Moats said. "His enthusiasm and passion is what attracted us to him. His infectious personality will be an asset to our program. We look forward to his ability to turn our program around."

"I'm extremely excited about the addition of Jordan to our staff," said Missouri State Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Ronald Boyce. "He will bring his extensive experience, ferocious competitive attitude, and all of his success to MSU and to our athletic programs. Jordan will be a win-win situation for MSU and track & field and cross country."

No stranger to the Missouri Valley Conference, Fife competed in cross country and track & field at Indiana State from 2002-07, claiming school records in the 1,500 meters, 3,000 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase during his time as a Sycamore. Fife also earned 2005 Most Valuable Athlete recognition for the MVC indoor championships and claimed Most Valuable Track Athlete for the 2006 MVC outdoor championships. He was named the recipient of the Hillman Award as a senior in 2007, an honor given to ISU's outstanding male athlete.

"I'm thrilled with the opportunity to join the athletic department at Missouri State University," said Fife. I am looking forward to working with coach Boyce and [assistant] coach [Mike] Scott to help bring the cross country and track & field teams back to the top of the MVC. I was very impressed with the city of Springfield, the Missouri State campus and all of the academic and athletic facilities. My family and I are excited to get to Springfield and start this next chapter of our life."

Following graduation, Fife ran for Team Indiana Elite in Bloomington until November 2012, becoming an eight-time USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships qualifier in the steeplechase. Fife also qualified for consecutive U.S. Olympic Trials in the steeplechase as well as two USATF indoor championships in the 1,500 meters.

Fife became the fourth runner in Indiana to achieve a sub-four-minute mile in 2008, running 3:59.75.
