SPRINGFIELD -- In addition to gearing up for the 2009 season, Missouri State head softball coach Holly Hesse has a busy month of December ahead of her. The Bears’ mentor will address a pair of national coaching conventions in Marco Island, Fla., as well as the NCAA Women Coaches Academy in Denver, speaking on the topic of her 2003 book, The Diamond of Success: A Philosophical Model for Coaching.
On Friday, Dec. 12, Hesse will speak at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Convention, which will run Dec. 10-13, at the Marco Island Marriott Resort. Prior to addressing the NFCA membership, Hesse will be a featured speaker in three sessions at the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association’s Annual Convention, Monday, Dec. 8, and Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Hilton Marco Island.
Following her Florida engagements, Hesse will address the NCAA Women Coaches Academy, Dec. 12 and Dec. 13, in Denver, Colo. A founding member of the Academy, Hesse has played an active role in promoting both the sport of softball and women’s sports in general. She currently serves as president of the Springfield chapter of the Women’s Intersport Network (WIN).
Entering her 21st season as head coach at MSU, Hesse is the Bears’ all-time winningest coach with a career mark of 529-501-2. Her tenure includes two Missouri Valley Conference regular-season titles, four MVC tournament championships and four of Missouri State’s five NCAA Tournament appearances.
Missouri State will kick off its 41st season of varsity softball Feb. 6 against Nicholls State in Shreveport, La. The Bears return six seniors, including All-MVC performers Brooke Kempker and Jessie Smith, and all but two regulars from last year’s 28-22 club that fell just one win short of capturing the school’s sixth MVC Tournament title.
